Iraqi Young Leaders Exchange Program

Program website: http://www.umasscivic-iylep.com

The Iraqi Young Leaders Exchange Program (IYLEP), funded by the United States Embassy/Baghdad, and implemented by FHI360, enables fifty highly motivated undergraduate students from Iraq to attend an intensive academic summer program at a U.S. host university. Each student will participate in a fully funded six-week program that includes classroom instruction and active educational opportunities related to one of two themes: social networking or public policy. Institutes will focus on these themes and their expression in contemporary American life, as shaped by historical and current political, social, and economic issues. The Civic Initiative conducts the public policy program for 25 of these 50 participants. We have entitled our program "Political Leadership" and our approach is to discuss Politics and Political Leadership in a combination of academic discourse and real life examples. There will be sessions on a number of different topics but we will focus the institute around the question of "How Things Get Done" in your local community.
